As a student, what are the possible ways you can help with the oil spill? Numerous events have been held so far, such as the Gulf Relief concert (see sidebar), but what can YOU do to help?
As a concerned citizen of the United States, and after viewing the videos and photos of the oil spill, what would you ask the officials at BP?
After viewing the videos and finding out the effects on marine life and the ecosystem in the Gulf of Mexico, pretend you are a scientist working on the case.. What suggestion(s) would you make to help lessen the effects of the oil spill for the animals and the people in the Gulf?
I could drive down and help clean off animals covered in oil. Also, I could work together with local hair salons to collect hair to make booms to soak up the oil and send it down.
ReplyDeleteI would ask BP officials how that could have beenso negligent. How can you not have failsafes intact to prevent this kind of distaster after what happened with Exon?
To lesson the impact, we have to clean it up. And we should stop letting them use dispersant because it just breaks the oil up into small globs that spread out even farther and are less avoidable.

I would ask BP why the research to prevent spills like this from happening and the research on how to clean up the mess effectively was stopped 20 years ago.
ReplyDeleteFor my part, I would be more energy conscious and promote clean energy in my community.
1) Using less oil each day can be a start!
ReplyDelete2) I would ask how we can trust BP in the future to not create another catastrophe. This giant company is not going away and is still supplying oil daily to communities around the world. How can they regain our trust?
3) I think we really need to engage the scientific community. BP is clearly overwhelmed and the US government is not equipped to deal with this crisis. How can we safely and effectively lessen this horrible spill? We need some smart and unassociated minds to help.
