Oil spill poetry
After reading the poem below, what is the author's take on the oil spill? How does she feel, and how do you know? Does she do a good job of getting her point across? Do others feel the same way she does? If not, what are their views? Then, using the videos and photographs from the oil spill, write your own short poem showcasing your thoughts and feelings! Don't forget to read others' poems to see what they are thinking and feeling too!

What can YOU do?
As a student, what are the possible ways you can help with the oil spill? Numerous events have been held so far, such as the Gulf Relief concert (see sidebar), but what can YOU do to help?
As a concerned citizen of the United States, and after viewing the videos and photos of the oil spill, what would you ask the officials at BP?
After viewing the videos and finding out the effects on marine life and the ecosystem in the Gulf of Mexico, pretend you are a scientist working on the case.. What suggestion(s) would you make to help lessen the effects of the oil spill for the animals and the people in the Gulf?
